Cooperation

October 4, 2003

cooperation.gifThis week was all about cooperation. I am taking a class called Social Software with a bonafide member of the digerati, Clay Shirky. Then, through a listserv that I recently joined, nettime, I found out about a confrerence taking place this year called Freecooperation. On the listserv for this conference, someone posted a Clay Shirky speech from an O'Reilly conference. My social software group is still undecided about what we want to build. I am voting for an event planner/group purchase optimizer. The idea is to facilitate group decision making about the scheduling and sharing the costs of events. It would incorporate some patterns from the ebay such as auctions with time limits and reserve prices that are set by the initiating user. However, instead of auctions, the user can invite other members to join thier group in anticipation of some realworld event whose schedule will depend on the will of the many invitees (according to parameters set by the initiator) and whose price can change according to the amount of people join.
