Democracy can stop the Enron Energy Bill

November 18, 2003

dennis kucinichThis week will determine whether we will stand for the 1700 page result of Vice President Dick Cheney's now infamous hidden gatherings with rich Energy Corporations like Enron (What is he afraid of us finding out?). Who is going to be responsible for representing the people of the United States? Will the NRA get involved? Because the money and market power that would be given to these dying 20th Century Energy Giants is just as big a deal as the FCC's giveaways to Big Media. We need another win, and this could be it. Call your Senators and Congress people. Tell them to Stop the Enron Energy Bill. We want leadership for a vision for 21st Century Energy Bill that creates jobs and cleans the air.

Update: On Friday, the Senate failed to stop the fillibuster. Democrats and some Republicans are starting to call out the giveaways to Industry and lobbyists, and perhaps we will be fortunate enough to get a new chance next year to create a real energy bill for the 21st century.
