Is Kucinich on the Rise?

February 9, 2004

dennis kucinichWhen I'm in my naive and hopeful political dream world, I wonder if it's still possible for Dennis Kucinich to emerge from the shadows into the light of this Democratic Party. In both the Washington and Maine caucuses, he placed third, ahead of John Edwards, Wesley Clark and Al Sharpton (16% in Maine). Unfortunately, the major media outlets have so far failed to notice. According to the Kucinich Campaign, CNN incorrectly stated in a report on February 8th that, "Dean, struggling to revive his once-promising campaign, was the only candidate who campaigned in the state Sunday, making stops in six cities." If Dean were to drop out (he said that he's not going to), Kucinch may get a surge of support among progressives, especially in New York and California. Of course, the likelihood of him winning is close to zero, but his issues, like those of Dean, Clark, Edwards and the others, deserve to be a part of the Convention in Boston and the Democratic Platform moving forward.
