Beginning to Turn the Tide

October 2, 2004

Watching the Presidential Debate last night with friends, it was the first time in months that I began believe that Kerry really could be a great President. I've always kind of mildly supported him, even though I care strongly about removing Bush and his crew from power. But last night, I finally got a little inspired about John Kerry. Not only was he being more presidential than the current occupant of the White House, but he also had a strong command of the facts in the global reality that exists in this post 9/11 landscape.

The most clear moment of inspiration for me was when Jim Lehrer asked Kerry what he thought was the biggest threat to American security. Kerry answered almost immediately, the proliferation of nuclear weapons. His clarity about leading the way toward a world without nuclear weapons made it obvious that this was something he has been committed to for 30+ years. I couldn't help but think, "How cool would it be to have a President of the United States that is genuinely committed to ridding the world of nuclear weapons?"
