day after christmas in hanoi
December 29, 2005
an early morning cab ride to the best rated airport in the world, flight from singapore to hanoi, a warm greeting from a 17 year old official immigration, a free ride through raining countryside to the fresh life in hanoi.after settling into a budget hotel, we walked through thousands of motorbikes jetting in every directions, honking in the space of traffic lights. friendly people, strong smells, falling water, and chinese characters brought us to a wonderful traveler's bubble of amazing vegetarian food. among tshirts of ho chi min and the yellow star, symbols of happiness, we thanked the locals with "camm 'on" and wandering over a red bridge and a tourist packed temple.
after sharing our impressions with the camera, and a 3 hour nap back at our temporary crib, sam and I head out to find dinner or the local beer drinkers, but perhaps the day after christmas is a holiday, or the rain has dampered the spirits, and we end up with the other gringitos at minh's jazz club, great sax and piano, some tasty shrimp, and some beer before our walk home through the rain drops among calls for "motorcyle?" and "marijuana?".
no thanks for tonight. using our sense to find the camille hotel, sending a quick email before heading to sleep before another day in hanoi. hopefully a bit sunnier, a bit drier, with just as much chaos and just as much love.
