Request to the iTunes Music Store
June 25, 2006
Hello,
I am the artist of the album "Premixed" which was recently added to the iTunes music store (thank you). The songs on the album are each licensed with a Creative Commons license that legally gives permission for users to share the files with other users and also to remix or edit them. (The tracks are all legal remixes of previously released work). However, the DRM that iTunes offers will not allow the users to do what they legally have a right to.
I wonder if it would be possible to turn off the DRM for the tracks on my "Premixed" album? I have been told by Lawrence Lessig, the Chairman of Creative Commons, that iTunes is able to turn off the DRM for some educational content being sold by Universities, and I hope you will be able to turn it off for my album as well.
Please let me know as I will be promoting my album in the next few weeks and would love to be able to point my fan base to the iTunes music store and not to a competitor's site.
Thanks again for the excellent music store and for helping musicians to make a living off of their work.
All the best,
Colin
