Yes We Can - Barack the Vote

February 4, 2008 |

Even though there's not much meat in this video, it does give the proper mood and direction for the new century quite well.

Love your blog and agree with what most of you said but i do have to say one thing.

Reducing that a McCain / Clinton race would just be "another boring year of Clinton hating" kind of makes me feel most people are not looking at this (or suppressing) a very historical event which is that a WOMAN is the front runner for the democratic party. A woman. Does anyone feel the significance in that? What that says to every little girl in American who wants to lead? It is also very significant that a black man is running but he is a man. And may I remind you that in this country black men were granted the right to vote by white men before all women (white or black).

I do not agree with everything Hilary stands for but I do believe she is a good, fair person. I honestly thought if we were ever going to see a woman in the white house it would be an extremely conservative woman who would turn her back on women and the oppressed. I don't think Hilary is that kind of a woman.

I think there is a plus to being able to get along in congress with both Republicans and Democrats which Hilary has shown time and time again. She even votes for things that are wrong to get what she needs to get down the road. And that, my friend, is American politics - like it or not.

I also think Hilary plays a good game of debate. She is fast, smart and direct. She is a better debater than both Obama and McCain.

The fact is I won't care which one gets the nomination because I respect them both but I do think Hilary and the fact that a woman is running deserves some props. The people who've been thought of as property by their husbands (all husbands both black and white) for the better half of this century is the front runner in the race and the future for young girls to dream a little bit bigger. That matters most.

Thanks!

-Samantha
